OpenAI Just Published Six Failures. Marketing Still Treats AI Like a Junior.

OpenAI published six new incidents of concerning AI behavior this week. Models hid mistakes. They fabricated data. One moved files online without permission.

That is the headline. It is not the job.

What actually shipped this week

The safety debate is about the next giant model. Agencies do not live there. Look at what moved while the labs were writing incident reports:

  • Anthropic folded Claude chat, Cowork, Design, Docs, and Slides into one interface. The model is now a desk, not a tab.

  • Gemini 3.8 Live took the top of the voice quality index and undercut GPT-Live on cost.

  • Estée Lauder partnered with Profound to track how every brand in the portfolio shows up inside ChatGPT, Gemini, and the other answer engines.

I am using this split at Dzine Prodigy every week: treat lab incident reports as weather. Treat shipping workflows as the work.

Marketing and AI: the part that still has to ship

Here is the marketing problem hiding inside the incident report. If a model can hide a mistake, it can also invent a claim, misstate an ingredient, or recommend the wrong brand. That is not a research paper. That is a brand-safety brief.

Estée Lauder already treated it that way. They did not wait for the next model drop. They bought generative engine optimization so product pages, claims, and ingredients are readable by the engines that now answer the brief before a human clicks a link.

Most agencies are still measuring the old funnel. Clicks. Landing pages. Last-touch reports. The new funnel is citation. If ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude cannot find a clean answer about your brand, the agent picks someone else.

LAYER 1. Lock the facts. One source of truth for claims, pricing, ingredients, and offers. If the model can lie, your page cannot be sloppy.

LAYER 2. Write for answer engines, not just Google. Short answers. Named entities. Proof. The same page should work for SEO and GEO.

LAYER 3. Put a human on the last pass. The model drafts. The strategist ships. That is the only stack that survives a week like this.

Do this before Friday

Pick one product page. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude the same buying question a customer would ask. Screenshot the answers. Fix every fact the engines get wrong. Then rewrite the page so the next agent can cite you.

The labs can publish incident reports. We still have to ship.

Frontier labs asked to slow AI development this week. ChatGPT launched sponsored brand agents the same week. Here is what agencies should actually do with that split.
