This Week AI Got Cheaper, Faster, and Too Dangerous to Ship

Monday night Anthropic dropped Claude Fable 5.1. Same sticker price. Workloads just got about 25% cheaper because cache reads fell 75%. Tuesday, OpenAI said Astra crossed its Critical cyber threshold and will ship gated. Google is lining up Gemini 3.8 Flash in the same window.

This is not a launch week. This is a production week.

What actually shipped

LAYER 1 — Cost. Fable 5.1 still sits at $10 / $50 per million tokens. The cut is in the cache. Teams already running long agent sessions will feel this in the invoice before they feel it in a demo.

LAYER 2 — Speed. Gemini 3.8 Flash is being positioned as the workhorse that goes after Fable on coding. If last month’s Flash drop is any signal, Google will price the volume work, not the trophy bench.

LAYER 3 — Containment. Astra can find and exploit zero-days without a human in the loop. OpenAI is not killing the model. They are locking the sharpest edge behind extra guardrails. Capability is no longer the scarce resource. Permission is.

What this means for marketing

Gemini’s standalone app already crossed 1 billion monthly users. Chat is not a side channel anymore. It is a media surface. If your brand only ranks on Google and dies inside ChatGPT or Gemini, you are paying for traffic that never converts in the new stack.

Three things we are changing at Dzine Prodigy this week:

  1. Rewrite service pages so an answer engine can quote the offer without inventing it. That is generative engine optimization, not another blog calendar.

  2. Build one agentic workflow per retainer — research, first-draft variations, QA. A chatbot in Slack is not a marketing system.

  3. Treat cheaper tokens as more tests, not cheaper thinking. Volume of on-brand variations is the edge. Generic output is now free. Taste is not.

Do this next

Pick one live client page. Ask Gemini and Claude the exact buying question your customer asks. If neither names you, the page is not finished. Fix the facts, the offer, and the structure this week. Then rerun the query.

The models will keep getting cheaper. The brands that show up inside them will not.
