ChatGPT Ads Just Dropped the Landing Page
The click used to mean one thing. Send them to a site.
Today that contract broke.
OpenAI is now testing ChatGPT ads that skip the landing page. The CTA is Chat to us. The destination is a branded agent inside the chat. Wayfair is already in the trial.
If you run an agency, this is not a format update. This is a new sales floor.
What actually shipped this week
I am not stacking headlines for sport. I am watching where the money moves.
September 14: Digiday confirmed OpenAI is offering select advertisers an AI-native ad. Click the unit. Stay in ChatGPT. Talk to the brand agent.
September 10: Amazon Ads opened a ChatGPT surface for existing DSP campaigns. Delta Vacations is first in the US pilot.
Same week: the IAB raised its 2026 US ad spend forecast to 12.3 percent. Automated and AI campaign types are now about 12 percent of that spend.
ChatGPT Ads already crossed a 1 billion dollar annualized run rate. The format is seven months old. The landing page just became optional.
Meanwhile the labs asked to slow the frontier. Dario Amodei wanted pacing. Sam Altman parked an IPO. Fine. That is the boardroom story.
The product story did not pause. Ads got a conversation. Agents got a job.
Marketing and AI: you are no longer buying a visit
This is the section most recaps skip, and it is the one that hits agency P and L first.
Your media plan still buys a click that lands on a page you control. Pixel. Form. Offer. Bounce rate. That stack assumes a human will stare at a layout.
This format buys a conversation. The agent can qualify, recommend, and capture a lead without your PDP, your 14-field form, or your page-speed score.
At Dzine Prodigy we already treat AI-native marketing as a production problem, not a content trick. This week the brief changes again.
The creative brief is now a sales script. Not a banner. Write the twelve questions a buyer actually asks before they spend.
The offer lives in the agent. Product feed, MCP tools, lead form. If those are sloppy, the ad spends money to embarrass the brand.
Measurement is conversation quality. Did they ask price. Did they book. Did they bounce from the chat. Bounce rate on a URL is the wrong scoreboard.
Retailers will hate the data trade. They want first-party traffic on a site they own. Buyers do not care. They will finish the job where the answer already started.
Google had the text link. Meta had the feed. TikTok had the video. OpenAI is hunting the format that belongs to chat. Click to chat is the first one that feels native.
Do this before Friday
Pick one SKU with a clean offer. Write the twelve questions. Wire the answers into an agent. Then put a small test budget behind ChatGPT Ads if you can get in, or build the agent anyway so you are ready when the invite lands.
The labs can debate pace. Marketing already hit send.
