ChatGPT Ads Just Hit $1 Billion. India Gets the Buy Button Today.

OpenAI just told the market ChatGPT Ads is running at $1 billion annualized revenue. And as of today, Indian advertisers can buy those ads themselves.
Not next quarter. Not after a media-agency RFP. Self-serve. India, Europe, Middle East, North Africa. Same product that already sits inside a billion weekly conversations.
If you still think AI is a content tool, this week just made that idea expensive.
What actually shipped this week
Three moves. One pattern.
ChatGPT Ads hit $1B ARR. OpenAI is no longer testing a format. It is running an ad business next to the most-used commercial intent engine on the internet.
Self-serve opened in India today. SMEs and startups can buy the conversation, not just the click. That is a new media channel landing in the same market we run campaigns from.
Gemini already crossed 1 billion monthly users. Combined with ChatGPT at similar scale, the first brand conversation is now happening inside an answer engine, not on your homepage.
Meanwhile the model market keeps getting cheaper. OpenAI already slashed GPT-5.6 Luna pricing hard. That is not a side story. Cheap inference is what makes a chat ad unit possible at this scale.
The marketing problem nobody wants to say out loud
Forrester already put numbers on the industry: nine in ten US marketing agencies use AI. Most of that usage is cost-cutting. Productivity. Faster decks. Cheaper first drafts. Half of them are now running agentic execution. Very few are using the same stack to get more distinctive.
BCG's 2026 CMO survey is worse. 96% of CMOs say AI is transforming marketing end to end. About a third have actually rebuilt the work. 8% run campaigns where multiple agents operate with real autonomy.
Adoption is not the moat. Taste plus a shipping system is.
This is the gap we keep seeing at Dzine Prodigy. Brands ask for more AI output. What they actually need is an AI-native marketing system that can win inside ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google in the same week a campaign goes live.
That means three things in the brief, not in a slide:
Write for the answer, not the click. If ChatGPT is now an ad channel, your product copy has to survive a conversation. Generative engine optimization is not a blog tactic. It is media.
Use AI for volume. Keep humans on the edge. Variations, briefs, first-pass edits, reporting. That is the machine. Positioning, taste, and the line you would actually put your name on. That is us.
Treat ChatGPT Ads like a test budget this month. Not a thought piece. One product. One commercial-intent query cluster. Measure whether the answer mentions you before you scale spend.
Do this before Friday
Pick one live offer. Ask ChatGPT and Gemini the exact questions a buyer would ask. Screenshot the answers. If your brand is missing, you do not have an ads problem. You have an answer problem.
Fix the page that should be cited. Then buy a small ChatGPT Ads test against that same intent. That is the whole play for September 2026.
We are already running this stack on client work. If you want the same read on your category, bring the product. We will tell you if the conversation is winnable.
