Gemini Hit 1 Billion Users. Marketing Is No Longer a Website Problem.

Gemini just passed 1 billion monthly users inside the standalone app. Not Search. Not Workspace. The app.
Same week, Perplexity’s annualized revenue reportedly crossed $750 million. And 128 companies — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, banks, insurers — signed a letter saying AI-powered cyberattacks are about to scale.
That’s not three separate stories. That’s one shift: the customer already lives inside an answer engine. Most marketing still lives on a homepage.
What actually happened this week
LAYER 1 — Distribution moved. Gemini hitting a billion users means the default interface for a huge slice of the internet is a conversation, not a click. If your brand only “exists” when someone types a URL, you are late.
LAYER 2 — Search is being rented out. Perplexity at $750M ARR is not a cute chatbot. It’s a business built on answering before the ten blue links ever load. Brands that only optimize for classic SEO are optimizing for a shrinking room.
LAYER 3 — Trust is now a production problem. When the same labs warning you about AI attacks are also drafting your copy, “ship more content” is a lazy brief. Ship cleaner systems. Source the work. Own the brand kit so a model swap doesn’t wipe your voice.
Where marketing actually breaks
Here’s the part agencies keep missing.
AI-native marketing is not “ChatGPT wrote the captions.” It’s whether your offer can survive three new surfaces:
Answer engines that summarize you without sending the click.
Agentic workflows that compare you against three competitors in one prompt.
Cheap open-weight models that let a rival produce 40 on-brand variants before your first review meeting.
BEFORE: one campaign, four assets, two weeks.
AFTER: one brand system, forty variations, same afternoon — or you lose the brief to a shop that already works that way.
What we’re doing at Dzine Prodigy
We don’t bet the week on one model. We bet on the workflow that still ships if OpenAI changes terms, Gemini ships another Flash, or a near-free open-weight model eats the first draft.
This week’s job is simple. Pick one live campaign. Rebuild the first asset so it can be cited inside an answer engine, not just ranked on a page. Then make ten on-brand variants. Finish that before Friday.
The model will change again. The agency that owns the system won’t care.
