The Labs Asked to Slow Down. Marketing Didn't Get the Memo.
On Saturday, Dario Amodei asked frontier labs to slow the climb. He called it pacing. Sam Altman and Elon Musk said they agreed. By Monday, AI stocks were sliding and Washington was treating the slowdown like a conspiracy.
That is the headline. It is not the job.
What actually shipped this week
The pacing debate is about the next giant model. Agencies do not live there. Look at what moved while the CEOs were writing essays:
Apple put Siri AI on iOS 27. Voice is now a media channel, not a novelty.
Salesforce named Agentforce agents and gave them jobs. One of them, Hunter, is built to chase a goal for weeks.
OpenAI agents spent a weekend on a Millennium Prize math problem. Swarm plus checker is the capability to watch.
DeepSeek dropped another open model aimed at agent workloads. The cheap stack keeps getting cheaper.

Marketing and AI: the part that still has to ship
While the labs argue about speed limits, marketing already has a new org chart. Named AI marketing agents. Long-horizon runtimes. Answer engines that cite a brand or skip it. If your stack still ends at write 10 ads, you are pacing yourself — not the frontier.
LAYER 1 — Finish something an agent can close without you in the room. Variations, first-pass research, weekly reporting. Not a demo. A deliverable.
LAYER 2 — Write for citations, not just clicks. Generative engine optimization is the new brief. If ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude cannot quote you cleanly, you do not exist in the answer.
LAYER 3 — Keep a human on brand, legal, and the kill switch. Production speed is useless if the work cannot ship under your name.
Do this before Friday
Pick one messy workflow. Put an agent on it with a hard stop and a human review. Measure hours saved and variations tested. Then decide if you need another model.
The labs can debate the speed limit. We still have to ship.
